When we are still, and silent, we give our brain, our nervous system, a chance to recover. Silence is connected to the development of new cells in hippocampus, the part of the brain related to learning and memory. Silence restores the nervous system, helps sustain our energy level, and helps our mind be more adaptable  and receptive in the ever-changing world we live in. 

There are many very good reasons for being still, and silent. This is what restorative yoga can help us be, and do.

The poses, āsanas, in restorative yoga are built with details, that ”…. seek to make the body lie still and relaxed, and to stimulate the parasympathtic nervous system and similarly quiet down the sympathtice. When successful, it stimulates a number of processes in the body….” (translated from the Danish book "Yoga i hvile - restorativ yoga" by Sussie Jensen).
